Wikis in Libraries
This week’s readings, group presentation and case studies provided an excellent summary of the many ways that wikis can be used in libraries of all shapes and sizes. Some of my favourite uses for wikis in libraries are:
1. Subject Guides
2. Annotating the catalog
3. Knowledge Management tool
In addition, I think it would be neat if libraries made wikis for specific groups (teens, children, seniors) or genres (romance, comedy, mystery) in the library. I’m envisioning the same sort of thing that the Darien Public Library did with blogs, except with wikis. Finally, wikis are a great way to quickly (and easily) update procedures manuals and other such documents.
